What is Mattermost?

Mattermost is written in Go and used by organisations that cannot put internal conversations on a third-party SaaS: defence, finance, healthcare, government and engineering teams. It offers desktop and mobile apps, playbooks for incident response, boards for task tracking, webhooks and slash commands, and integrations with GitLab, Jira, Jenkins and hundreds of other tools.

The package deploys the Mattermost server with a PostgreSQL or MySQL database and persistent storage for uploaded files, exposes it over HTTPS and creates the first system administrator on first login. Vertical auto-scaling handles growth in users and message volume, and the whole environment can be snapshotted before upgrades.

What the Mattermost Package Deploys

Marketplace packages are not bare container images. One click provisions a complete, production-shaped environment on MassiveGRID infrastructure.

  • Mattermost server: The Go-based Mattermost server on a dedicated node with process management.
  • Database: A linked PostgreSQL or MySQL container holding users, channels and messages.
  • File storage: Persistent disk for uploads and attachments, expandable from the dashboard.
  • Built-in domain and SSL: Web, desktop and mobile clients connect over HTTPS immediately; attach your own domain via Let's Encrypt.

Why Run Mattermost on MassiveGRID PaaS

Built for uptime. Mattermost runs on MassiveGRID's high-availability platform, where every environment is covered by a 100% uptime SLA. Nodes live on redundant hosts, storage is replicated, and failed containers are restarted or migrated automatically.

Pay for what you use. Billing is hourly and per cloudlet (128 MiB RAM plus 400 MHz CPU). Vertical auto-scaling adds and removes cloudlets as load changes, so a quiet Mattermost environment costs a few dollars a month and a busy one grows without a migration. Full details are on the PaaS page.

Your choice of jurisdiction. Deploy in New York, London, Frankfurt or Singapore and keep data inside the region your users or regulators require. MassiveGRID is ISO 9001 certified and GDPR compliant, and has run hosting infrastructure since 2003.

No lock-in. The package is a standard Jelastic Packaging Standard (JPS) manifest. You keep root-level access to the containers, can export the manifest, and can move the workload to any other Jelastic-compatible platform or to your own servers at any time.

Mattermost Questions

Yes. The Team Edition and Free plan are open source with no per-user fee. Professional and Enterprise plans add SSO, compliance exports and advanced permissions under a paid licence from Mattermost. MassiveGRID's hosting is billed per use.
A single Mattermost server on a few gigabytes of RAM comfortably serves hundreds of active users. Vertical auto-scaling adds capacity; for thousands of users, add a load balancer and a second server node with a shared database.
Yes. The GitLab and Jenkins packages can post to Mattermost via built-in integrations and webhooks, all inside your MassiveGRID region.
There is no licence fee for the package. You pay only for the resources the Mattermost environment consumes, billed hourly in cloudlets of 128 MiB RAM plus 400 MHz CPU. A single-node environment starts at $2.46 per month, or $0.003372 per hour, and clustered topologies cost more because they run more nodes. See the PaaS pricing page for details.
MassiveGRID PaaS runs in four regions: New York, London, Frankfurt and Singapore. You pick the region in the installer, and every environment is covered by the 100% uptime SLA. Read more about our data centres and network.
Yes. New accounts get a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. Click Install with free trial above, sign up, and the installer opens with Mattermost already selected. Trial environments can be scaled, tested and deleted freely, and they convert to pay-per-use billing only when you add a payment method.
