HIPAA Compliant Hosting.
Built for the Security Rule That Is Coming.
Cloud servers, dedicated servers, private cloud and managed Nextcloud for electronic protected health information, hosted in MassiveGRID datacenters in the United States under a signed Business Associate Agreement. Encrypted at rest and in transit, segmented, backed up well inside the proposed 48-hour limit, and restorable within the proposed 72-hour objective, with the evidence file to prove it.
A Deployment We Can Describe, Not a Trust Page
HIPAA compliant hosting from MassiveGRID means a single-tenant deployment on our high-availability platform, in a US datacenter, operated under a Business Associate Agreement that names the hosting, backup, disaster recovery, monitoring and support services in scope. HIPAA has no certifying body, so no provider is "HIPAA certified"; what a covered entity needs is a business associate that implements the Security Rule's safeguards and can document them for the covered entity's own risk analysis and audit. That documentation is what we deliver, per deployment, every year.
A Signed BAA
Permitted uses, Security Rule safeguards, breach and incident reporting with a contractual window measured in hours, subcontractor flow-down, return or destruction at termination, and the 24-hour contingency activation notice the proposed rule would require. Read who signs the BAA and what it covers.
Encryption, MFA and Segmentation
AES-256 encrypted storage, TLS 1.2 or later on every endpoint, MFA on every administrative path, private networks between application, database and storage tiers, hardened images and closed ports. The technical safeguards the proposed rule makes mandatory, configured before the first byte of ePHI arrives.
48-Hour Backups, 72-Hour Restoration
Ceph replication for the common failures, daily point-in-time copies on separate storage, immutable off-site copies at a second US site, a documented restoration runbook and an annual rehearsal with a timed report. See the disaster recovery architecture.
Evidence for Your Auditor
Architecture document, firewall rule set, patch log, backup job history showing the age of the newest copy, restoration test report, scan and penetration test reports, and a signed annual attestation of technical safeguards. The file our contingency plan checklist asks you to build, mostly built for you.

A product not listed here can usually be brought into scope on a dedicated deployment; ask during the scoping call. Multi-tenant shared hosting plans are not offered for ePHI.
Every Proposed Control, Mapped to the Hosting
The proposed HIPAA Security Rule update turns addressable safeguards into requirements and adds measurable limits. This is how a MassiveGRID deployment meets each one, and what you receive as evidence.
| Proposed control | How the hosting meets it | Evidence you receive |
|---|---|---|
| Asset inventory and network map, updated every 12 months | A known set of components per deployment on one segmented network, documented by MassiveGRID | Deployment architecture document, updated on change |
| Encryption at rest and in transit | AES-256 encrypted volumes; TLS 1.2 or later; optional customer-managed keys and end-to-end encryption in Nextcloud | Configuration export, TLS scan report |
| Multi-factor authentication | MFA on every administrative and console path; enforced at your identity provider for application users | Access policy export, list of accounts with MFA state |
| Network segmentation | Database and storage reachable only from the application tier over private networks; admin access through a bastion | Firewall rule set, network diagram |
| Anti-malware, extraneous software, unused ports | Hardened images with only required services; malware scanning; ports closed by default | Image baseline, port scan |
| Patching: critical within 15 days, high within 30 | Managed patching on the vendor's advisory schedule | Patch log with dates per advisory |
| Backups no more than 48 hours old | Daily point-in-time copies on separate storage with off-site replication; continuous database log archiving where required | Backup job history showing the age of the newest copy |
| Restore critical systems within 72 hours | Replicated storage and HA for the common failures; documented runbook and standby environment for the rare ones | Runbook; annual rehearsal report with measured time |
| Contingency plan tested every 12 months | Annual restoration rehearsal into an isolated environment, conducted with you | Dated test report, tickets, timings, sign-off |
| Vulnerability scans every 6 months, penetration test every 12 | MassiveGRID scans the deployment; your tester receives scope and a window | Scan and test reports |
| Business associate verification every 12 months | Deployment-specific written attestation of technical safeguards | Signed attestation |
| 24-hour notice of contingency plan activation | Written into the BAA; delivered by the 24/7 NOC to named contacts | BAA clause, contact list, incident records |
The update is a proposal as of October 2026, with final action targeted for 2027 on the federal regulatory agenda. The current Security Rule remains enforceable, and every control above is also what a current risk analysis expects.
What We Do, and What Stays With You
A BAA allocates responsibility; it does not transfer all of it. This is the honest split.
- Physical safeguards at ISO 27001 certified US datacenters
- Platform security: hypervisor, network, storage encryption, segmentation, hardened images
- Managed operations where contracted: patching, monitoring, malware scanning, backups, restoration rehearsal
- Incident and breach reporting within the contractual window, and the 24-hour contingency activation notice
- Documentation: architecture, logs, reports and the annual attestation for your verification file
- Subcontractor flow-down and a disclosed subcontractor list
- The organisation-wide risk analysis and risk management plan, with our attestation as an input
- Application configuration: user access, sharing policies, retention rules, application-level MFA, audit log review
- Workforce: training, sanctions, access termination within the proposed one hour
- Emergency mode operation procedures for clinicians while a system is restored
- Criticality analysis and the RPO and RTO per system that we write into the DR plan
- Breach determination and notification to individuals, HHS and the media where required
From Scoping Call to Annual Attestation
A call to list the systems that will hold ePHI, their criticality, the RPO and RTO you need per system, the datacenter metro, and the products in scope. You receive a written proposal and the BAA for review.
The agreement is signed and the architecture document is produced: components, network segmentation, encryption, backup design, restoration runbook and the named contacts for incident and contingency notices.
Infrastructure is provisioned from hardened images, segmented, encrypted and connected to your identity provider. A baseline scan and port audit are run before any ePHI is loaded, and the results go in the file.
Applications and data move in waves with the old environment kept read-only until each wave is verified. For collaboration suites, the Microsoft 365 replacement guide describes the sequence.
24/7 NOC and SOC, managed patching and backups, six-monthly scans, and a restoration rehearsal every 12 months with a timed report. The signed attestation follows, ready for your annual business associate verification.
A Business Associate That Runs Its Own Cloud
Eight US Datacenter Metros
MassiveGRID deploys across Equinix, Digital Realty and partner facilities in New York, Ashburn, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, Phoenix, Los Angeles and Seattle, so production and the off-site copy stay in the United States in different regions. See our datacenter map.
High Availability Since 2003
Proxmox clusters with Ceph replicated storage and automatic failover: the two-layer HA architecture that carries a 100% uptime SLA and makes ordinary hardware failures a non-event rather than a restoration.
Certified, Monitored Operations
ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certified, with 24/7 NOC and SOC. Support access to customer systems is controlled with MFA and logged, which is the first thing a covered entity's verification asks about.
Nextcloud Platinum Partner
For collaboration workloads we deploy Nextcloud Hub Enterprise single-tenant, with Nextcloud GmbH support that never touches your data, so the software vendor stays outside the business associate chain. Read how a HIPAA-compliant collaboration platform is built on it.
Read the HIPAA Guides Before the Scoping Call
Our security and compliance team has written up the proposed Security Rule, the business associate relationship, the contingency plan evidence file and the disaster recovery architecture behind the 72-hour objective, plus an honest look at Microsoft 365 under the new rule. All of them are collected on the Healthcare and HIPAA hub.
