Private Cloud Hosting
Managed, Isolated, on the Platform You Choose
A MassiveGRID private cloud is isolated infrastructure that we design, build and operate for one organisation: on Proxmox VE, VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V or Azure Local, hosted in our New York, London, Frankfurt and Singapore facilities, in any of 700+ partner datacenters, or in your own. Start with a Virtual Private Cloud from $182.26 a month, or have a single-tenant cluster built to your specification with Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes inside it, under a 100% uptime SLA and 24/7 in-house operations.
What a Private Cloud Is, and When It Beats Public Cloud
Private cloud: compute, storage and networking, plus the self-service and automation layer above them, dedicated to a single organisation instead of shared with the public. It can sit in a provider's facility or on your own premises, and it can be operated by the provider or by your own team. What makes it a cloud rather than a server room is the automation: virtual machines, clusters and networks are provisioned by policy and recover from hardware failure without anyone on call. What makes it private is the tenancy: no other customer on the hypervisor, the storage pool or the broadcast domain, and a fixed, known location for the data.
| Question | Private cloud (MassiveGRID) | Public cloud (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) | Hybrid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who shares the hardware | Nobody on a dedicated cluster; dedicated vCores and private VLANs on a Virtual Private Cloud | Thousands of tenants per region; dedicated hosts at a premium | Sensitive tier private, elastic tier public |
| Where the data lives | A city you pick, one of 700+ facilities, or your own building | A region the provider operates, under its jurisdiction | Split by data class |
| Who operates it | MassiveGRID, 24/7 and in-house, or your team after handover | The provider runs the platform; you run everything above it | Two operating models, one integration layer |
| Cost model | Fixed monthly price for known capacity, no egress fees | Pay per use, with egress, IOPS and support billed on top | Fixed base, metered burst |
| Platform choice | Proxmox VE, VMware, Hyper-V or Azure Local; OpenShift and Kubernetes inside | The provider's hypervisor and services only | Private side as chosen, public side as offered |
| Best for | Steady workloads, regulated data, sovereignty, predictable budgets, VMware exits | Spiky demand, global service breadth, managed services you cannot run yourself | Organisations with both profiles |
A private cloud does not replace the public cloud for burst capacity or for managed services you have no intention of running; it replaces the shared tenancy and metered egress for the workloads that run every day. See the AWS, Azure and Google Cloud comparisons for the cost side.
Pick the Isolation Level, Then the Platform
Virtual Private Cloud
Your own slice of a MassiveGRID Proxmox HA cluster: dedicated vCores, private VLANs, your own firewall rules and a pool of resources you carve into virtual machines as you need them. Ordered from the store, provisioned automatically, billed monthly from $182.26 in New York, London and Frankfurt and $202.10 in Singapore, scaling to 64 vCores, 4 TB of RAM and 16 TB of high-availability SSD.
- Platform: Proxmox VE with Ceph storage
- Where: New York, London, Frankfurt, Singapore
- Failover: automatic, inside the cluster
- Support: Managed Server Support included
Dedicated Private Cloud
Single-tenant cluster nodes, your own storage pool and your own network fabric in a MassiveGRID facility: nobody else on the hardware. Built on Proxmox VE and Ceph by default, or on VMware vSphere, Hyper-V or Azure Local when your estate needs it, with Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes delivered inside. Reference configurations start at three compute nodes of 32 cores and 256 GB each with three Ceph nodes and a 10 Gbps private network, and run to five or more nodes of 128 cores and 2 TB each on a 25 Gbps fabric, or to clusters in two or more datacenters with cross-site replication and automated disaster recovery failover.
- Platform: Proxmox VE, VMware, Hyper-V or Azure Local
- Where: our four cities or any of 700+ facilities
- Inside: OpenShift, Kubernetes, managed databases
- Commercials: quoted per project, named account team
On-Premises and Sovereign Private Cloud
The same platforms, designed, deployed and operated by MassiveGRID on hardware in your own datacenter, or on hardware you own in a colocation facility. The control plane runs on site, so daily operation does not depend on any MassiveGRID service, and we operate it through audited remote access that you control. This is the model behind the white-label cloud platform for providers and the sovereign government suite, and the usual answer when a regulator or a contract says the data cannot leave the building.
- Platform: Proxmox VE, VMware, Hyper-V or Azure Local
- Where: your facility, or colocation we arrange
- Operations: by MassiveGRID, or handed to your team
- Commercials: quoted per project
| At a glance | Virtual Private Cloud | Dedicated Private Cloud | On-premises |
|---|---|---|---|
| Isolation | Logical: dedicated vCores, private VLANs | Physical: your nodes, storage and fabric | Physical, in your building |
| Platform | Proxmox VE | Proxmox VE by default; VMware, Hyper-V or Azure Local on request | Any of the four |
| OpenShift or Kubernetes | Self-installed in your VMs | Delivered and operated inside | Delivered and operated inside |
| Starting price | $182.26 a month ($202.10 Singapore) | Quoted per project | Quoted per project |
| Time to live | Provisioned after checkout | Hardware lead time, confirmed in the proposal | Hardware and site lead time, confirmed in the proposal |
| Scales to | 64 vCores, 4 TB RAM, 16 TB SSD per cloud | Add compute or storage nodes without downtime | Add nodes; capacity planned with you |
| Best for | Teams that want isolation and a fixed bill this week | Regulated workloads, guaranteed performance, a non-Proxmox platform | Sovereignty, residency rules, existing datacenter investment |
Four Hypervisor Platforms, Two Container Platforms Inside
Proxmox VE with Ceph
Our default and the platform behind every MassiveGRID region: KVM virtual machines and LXC containers, Corosync quorum, HA failover that restarts a lost node's VMs within roughly two minutes, Ceph with triple replication, Proxmox Backup Server. No hypervisor or storage licence, which is why it anchors our VMware replacement service.
VMware vSphere
For estates that must stay on vSphere for application certification, contractual or skills reasons: a dedicated vSphere cluster with vSAN or shared storage, vCenter and HA, operated by our team in our facilities or yours. Licensing is carried over from your Broadcom subscription or quoted with the project, and the exit to Proxmox is available whenever you choose it.
Microsoft Hyper-V
Windows Server Hyper-V with Failover Clustering for organisations standardised on Windows Server, Active Directory and System Center: live migration, replica for disaster recovery and the Windows tooling your administrators already use. Windows Server licensing is quoted with the project or carried over from your agreement.
Azure Local
Azure Local (formerly Azure Stack HCI) runs Azure virtual machines, Azure Kubernetes Service and Azure Arc-managed services on dedicated hardware we host or that sits on your premises, connected to your Azure subscription. Workloads that cannot go to the public cloud keep the Azure portal, policies and tooling, with the hardware and the day-to-day operation handled by MassiveGRID.
Red Hat OpenShift, inside
Delivered inside a Dedicated Private Cloud on any of the four platforms: OpenShift clusters on dedicated nodes with Ceph-backed persistent storage, the subscription included in the OpenShift plans, operated by OpenShift-certified engineers on the same 24/7 team that runs the hypervisor layer.
Kubernetes, inside
Upstream managed Kubernetes clusters inside your private cloud, with the control plane and workers on dedicated nodes, Ceph CSI for persistent volumes, and the MassiveGRID PaaS application layer on top when you want one-click databases and applications rather than a bare cluster.
Proxmox VE and Kubernetes carry no hypervisor or orchestration licence. VMware, Windows Server and Azure Local licences are quoted with the project or carried over from the agreements you already hold. Every platform is operated 24/7 by MassiveGRID's in-house team under the same ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certified processes.
Everything Below the Virtual Machine, Operated for You
- High-availability compute: multi-node clusters with quorum, live migration and automatic failover on every platform
- Replicated storage: all-NVMe Ceph pools with triple replication or erasure coding, a dedicated HA NAS pair for backups, capacity added without downtime
- Private networking: private VLANs, 10 or 25 Gbps fabric on dedicated builds, redundant uplinks to multiple Tier-1 carriers, site-to-site encrypted interconnect for multi-site clouds
- Security at every layer: 12 Tbps anti-DDoS, stateful firewalls, WAF and IDS/IPS, biometric access and 24/7 guards at the facilities
- Backup and disaster recovery: scheduled backups to the HA NAS, off-site replication on Enterprise builds, automated DR failover on Multi-Site
- 24/7 in-house NOC and SOC: monitoring, incident response and security operations by MassiveGRID staff, not an outsourced desk (NOC, SOC)
- Patching and firmware: hypervisor, storage, network and firmware updates in agreed windows, with live migration so maintenance does not mean downtime
- Capacity planning: utilisation reporting and growth forecasts, so nodes are added before they are needed
- Migration included: moving your existing environment to MassiveGRID costs nothing extra, whichever platform it comes from
- Named account team on dedicated and on-premises deployments; Managed Server Support on the Virtual Private Cloud; optional support plans for what runs inside the VMs

Virtual Private Cloud prices are the store defaults, billed in USD monthly, quarterly or yearly; vCores, RAM and storage are set on the order form and priced live. Dedicated and on-premises builds are quoted from the node count, platform licences, storage layout and sites. The 15-day money-back refund in the terms of service applies to the first month of a new service.
The Workloads That Move to a Private Cloud
VMware Exits
Estates facing Broadcom's subscription terms move to a Proxmox and Ceph private cloud with the same HA guarantees and no hypervisor licence, or keep vSphere on dedicated hardware we operate while they decide. VMware replacement service.
Regulated and Sovereign Data
Healthcare, finance and public bodies that must name the country, the building and the operator of their data. GDPR, HIPAA with a signed BAA, and digital sovereignty requirements are met by placement, single tenancy and ISO 27001 processes.
Government and Public Sector
In-country private cloud on government infrastructure or in a sovereign facility, with identity, collaboration and records platforms on top. See the sovereign government suite and national digital identity.
Service Providers and SaaS
Telcos, ISPs, MSPs and SaaS companies that want a cloud under their own brand, with tenants, quotas and billing, in our regions or their own datacenter. White-label cloud platform.
Container Platforms
Teams that want OpenShift or Kubernetes on hardware nobody else touches, with persistent storage that survives a node and a platform team they do not have to hire.
Collaboration and Workspaces
Organisations leaving Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace run Sovereign Workspaces or Nextcloud Enterprise on a dedicated private cloud, so the files, mail and identity of the whole organisation stay on single-tenant hardware in one jurisdiction.
From Scoping Call to 24/7 Operation
We confirm the workloads, the compliance and residency requirements, the platform (Proxmox VE, VMware, Hyper-V or Azure Local), the placement (our city, a partner facility or your premises) and the growth you expect. A Virtual Private Cloud skips this step: order it from the store and it is provisioned automatically.
Proposal with sizing, platform and priceNode count with N+1 headroom, storage layout and replication, network and IP plan, identity integration, backup and disaster recovery targets, and the licence position for every platform in scope. For OpenShift and Kubernetes, the cluster topology and persistent storage classes are designed here too.
Design document and runbooksHardware installed in a MassiveGRID facility, a colocation partner or your datacenter; cluster, storage and network deployed; failover, live migration and restore tested with you watching before anything moves.
Tested cluster, acceptance reportWorkloads move in agreed cutover windows. VMware and Hyper-V guests are converted when the platform changes (drivers, boot, network), and a cloned environment lets you rehearse the cutover. Where the platform stays the same, virtual machines are replicated or moved as they are.
Production on the private cloudMonitoring, patching, capacity planning, backups and incident response by MassiveGRID's own NOC and SOC, with utilisation reporting to your team and quarterly reviews on dedicated and on-premises deployments. Or, on your premises, a handover to your own administrators with our support behind them.
100% uptime SLA, reporting, reviewsManaged Private Cloud vs Hyperscaler vs Building It Yourself
| Criterion | MassiveGRID private cloud | Hyperscaler (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) | Self-built |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tenancy | Dedicated cluster, or dedicated vCores and VLANs on the virtual tier | Shared by default; dedicated hosts cost several times more | Dedicated |
| Platform choice | Proxmox VE, VMware, Hyper-V, Azure Local; OpenShift and Kubernetes inside | The provider's own hypervisor; Azure Local and Outposts for on-premises extensions | Anything your team can run |
| Data location | City, facility or your building, by contract | Region of the provider's choosing within a geography | Your building |
| Traffic and egress | Included allowance, no egress fees | Metered egress on every byte that leaves | Your transit contracts |
| Who is on call | MassiveGRID NOC and SOC, 24/7 | Provider for the platform, you for everything above it | Your team, including nights and holidays |
| Licence exposure | None on Proxmox VE and Kubernetes; quoted on VMware, Windows and Azure Local | Bundled into the hourly rate | Yours to negotiate and renew |
| Cost model | Fixed monthly for known capacity | Metered, with egress, IOPS and support tiers on top | Capital expense plus staff and power |
| Where it wins | Steady workloads, regulated data, sovereignty, predictable budgets | Elastic demand, global reach, the managed service catalogue | Teams with spare engineers and a datacenter already paid for |
A hyperscaler is the right answer for bursty, global or service-heavy workloads, and a self-built cluster is right when the staff and the building already exist. The private cloud wins for the workloads that run every day on data you must account for. Our managed vs self-managed guide puts numbers on the third column.
