GitLab Server on MassiveGRID PaaS

The DevOps Lab - GitLab Server package deploys a private GitLab Community Edition instance with auto-scaling CI/CD runners and a Docker registry on MassiveGRID PaaS. You get self-hosted Git repositories, merge requests, issue tracking and pipelines, with runner capacity that grows during builds and shrinks afterwards.

Both buttons open the MassiveGRID PaaS dashboard with GitLab Server pre-selected. The trial needs no credit card.

What is GitLab Server?

GitLab CE is the leading self-hosted alternative to GitHub: source control, code review, issues and boards, wiki, CI/CD pipelines, a container registry and package registries in one application. Many organisations self-host to keep source code and build artefacts in their own jurisdiction, to avoid per-user SaaS fees, or to integrate CI with internal networks.

Running GitLab well means a substantial server for the application plus runners for CI jobs. The package deploys GitLab CE, registers runners that scale horizontally with build demand, and wires a Docker registry so pipelines can build and push images without external services. Everything lives in the MassiveGRID region you choose.

What the GitLab Server Package Deploys

Marketplace packages are not bare container images. One click provisions a complete, production-shaped environment on MassiveGRID infrastructure.

  • GitLab CE server: The omnibus GitLab Community Edition with its bundled PostgreSQL, Redis and NGINX, sized to the environment's cloudlets.
  • Auto-scaling runners: GitLab Runner nodes registered to the server, added and removed on load so pipelines never queue for long.
  • Docker registry: A private container registry for images built by pipelines, integrated with GitLab authentication.
  • Built-in domain and SSL: HTTPS access to GitLab and the registry immediately; attach your own domain with Let's Encrypt.

Why Teams Choose GitLab Server

Complete DevOps platform

Repositories, merge requests, issues, wiki, CI/CD and registries under one login, with no per-seat licence.

Elastic CI capacity

Runners scale with the pipeline queue, so a release day gets more build power and a quiet week costs less.

Code stays in your region

Source, artefacts and images in New York, London, Frankfurt or Singapore, under your control.

Deploy to the same platform

Pipelines can deploy straight to other MassiveGRID PaaS environments using the platform API or the Git-Push-Deploy add-on.

How to Install GitLab Server on MassiveGRID PaaS

Installing the package takes three steps and a few minutes of waiting. No servers to provision, no configuration files to edit.

01

Open the installer

Click Install with free trial or Install to my account. The MassiveGRID PaaS dashboard opens with the GitLab Server package pre-selected, so nothing has to be copied or pasted.

02

Sign up or sign in

New to the platform? Sign up for the free 14-day trial, which needs no credit card. Existing customers sign in with their usual dashboard credentials.

03

Choose region and deploy

Name the environment, pick New York, London, Frankfurt or Singapore, and confirm. The platform builds every GitLab Server node, wires them together and hands you the live URL and credentials.

Who Runs GitLab Server on PaaS

Software teams leaving SaaS Git

Companies replacing GitHub or GitLab.com subscriptions with a private instance.

Regulated development

Finance, defence and healthcare teams whose code cannot leave a specified jurisdiction.

Agencies and consultancies

One GitLab for many client projects, with per-project runners and registries.

Why Run GitLab Server on MassiveGRID PaaS

Built for uptime. GitLab Server runs on MassiveGRID's high-availability platform, where every environment is covered by a 100% uptime SLA. Nodes live on redundant hosts, storage is replicated, and failed containers are restarted or migrated automatically.

Pay for what you use. Billing is hourly and per cloudlet (128 MiB RAM plus 400 MHz CPU). Vertical auto-scaling adds and removes cloudlets as load changes, so a quiet GitLab Server environment costs a few dollars a month and a busy one grows without a migration. Full details are on the PaaS page.

Your choice of jurisdiction. Deploy in New York, London, Frankfurt or Singapore and keep data inside the region your users or regulators require. MassiveGRID is ISO 9001 certified and GDPR compliant, and has run hosting infrastructure since 2003.

No lock-in. The package is a standard Jelastic Packaging Standard (JPS) manifest. You keep root-level access to the containers, can export the manifest, and can move the workload to any other Jelastic-compatible platform or to your own servers at any time.

GitLab Server Questions

GitLab recommends at least 4 GB of RAM for a small team and more as users and repositories grow. Set the server node's cloudlet limit accordingly; runners are separate nodes and scale independently.
Yes. The included runners use the Docker executor and can be reconfigured. You can also register runners on your own machines or on a Kubernetes cluster deployed from the marketplace.
Use GitLab's built-in backup task on a schedule, store the output on a Backup Storage node, and take environment snapshots before upgrades.
There is no licence fee for the package. You pay only for the resources the GitLab Server environment consumes, billed hourly in cloudlets of 128 MiB RAM plus 400 MHz CPU. A single-node environment starts at $2.46 per month, or $0.003372 per hour, and clustered topologies cost more because they run more nodes. See the PaaS pricing page for details.
MassiveGRID PaaS runs in four regions: New York, London, Frankfurt and Singapore. You pick the region in the installer, and every environment is covered by the 100% uptime SLA. Read more about our data centres and network.
Yes. New accounts get a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. Click Install with free trial above, sign up, and the installer opens with GitLab Server already selected. Trial environments can be scaled, tested and deleted freely, and they convert to pay-per-use billing only when you add a payment method.
