What is Joomla?

Joomla has been in continuous development since 2005 and powers millions of sites, from small-business pages to intranets and membership portals. Its strengths are features that other systems need plugins for: multilingual content, nested categories, user groups with access levels, and a template override system that lets designers change any output without touching core code.

On MassiveGRID PaaS the package provisions a PHP application server, a MySQL or MariaDB database and the current Joomla release, then leaves you in the familiar administrator interface. Environment snapshots, cloning and vertical auto-scaling come from the platform, so a Joomla site that grows never needs to be migrated to a bigger server.

What the Joomla Package Deploys

Marketplace packages are not bare container images. One click provisions a complete, production-shaped environment on MassiveGRID infrastructure.

  • PHP application server: Apache or NGINX with PHP-FPM and the extensions Joomla needs, including JSON, SimpleXML, zlib and OPcache.
  • MySQL or MariaDB database: A separate database container with credentials pre-filled in Joomla's configuration.
  • Joomla core: The latest stable Joomla release with the installer completed, so you land directly in the administrator dashboard.
  • Built-in domain and SSL: Instant HTTPS on a platform subdomain; add your own domain with free Let's Encrypt certificates.

Why Teams Choose Joomla

Multilingual out of the box

Language associations, per-language menus and content are core features, not add-ons.

Access control levels

User groups and view levels make member areas, intranets and paid content straightforward.

Thousands of extensions

The Joomla Extensions Directory covers e-commerce, forums, event booking, directories and more.

Room to grow

Vertical auto-scaling handles traffic peaks, and the topology can be extended with a load balancer and more PHP nodes when needed.

How to Install Joomla on MassiveGRID PaaS

Installing the package takes three steps and a few minutes of waiting. No servers to provision, no configuration files to edit.

01

Open the installer

Click Install with free trial or Install to my account. The MassiveGRID PaaS dashboard opens with the Joomla package pre-selected, so nothing has to be copied or pasted.

02

Sign up or sign in

New to the platform? Sign up for the free 14-day trial, which needs no credit card. Existing customers sign in with their usual dashboard credentials.

03

Choose region and deploy

Name the environment, pick New York, London, Frankfurt or Singapore, and confirm. The platform builds every Joomla node, wires them together and hands you the live URL and credentials.

Who Runs Joomla on PaaS

Multilingual business sites

Companies serving customers in several languages from a single installation.

Membership and community portals

Associations, clubs and NGOs that need member logins, restricted content and directories.

Small e-commerce

Shops built on Joomla extensions such as VirtueMart or HikaShop with room to scale during promotions.

Why Run Joomla on MassiveGRID PaaS

Built for uptime. Joomla runs on MassiveGRID's high-availability platform, where every environment is covered by a 100% uptime SLA. Nodes live on redundant hosts, storage is replicated, and failed containers are restarted or migrated automatically.

Pay for what you use. Billing is hourly and per cloudlet (128 MiB RAM plus 400 MHz CPU). Vertical auto-scaling adds and removes cloudlets as load changes, so a quiet Joomla environment costs a few dollars a month and a busy one grows without a migration. Full details are on the PaaS page.

Your choice of jurisdiction. Deploy in New York, London, Frankfurt or Singapore and keep data inside the region your users or regulators require. MassiveGRID is ISO 9001 certified and GDPR compliant, and has run hosting infrastructure since 2003.

No lock-in. The package is a standard Jelastic Packaging Standard (JPS) manifest. You keep root-level access to the containers, can export the manifest, and can move the workload to any other Jelastic-compatible platform or to your own servers at any time.

Joomla Questions

Yes. Use Akeeba Backup or a manual copy of files and database, then restore into the new environment via SFTP and the database manager. Update the configuration file with the credentials shown in the dashboard.
The package installs the current stable Joomla release at install time and the PHP version it requires. Existing sites on older versions can be upgraded in place with Joomla's update component after migration.
Enable Joomla's system cache and Gzip in Global Configuration, use OPcache (already on), and consider adding a Redis node for the cache handler. The Lightning-Fast CDN add-on offloads static assets to edge locations.
There is no licence fee for the package. You pay only for the resources the Joomla environment consumes, billed hourly in cloudlets of 128 MiB RAM plus 400 MHz CPU. A single-node environment starts at $2.46 per month, or $0.003372 per hour, and clustered topologies cost more because they run more nodes. See the PaaS pricing page for details.
MassiveGRID PaaS runs in four regions: New York, London, Frankfurt and Singapore. You pick the region in the installer, and every environment is covered by the 100% uptime SLA. Read more about our data centres and network.
Yes. New accounts get a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. Click Install with free trial above, sign up, and the installer opens with Joomla already selected. Trial environments can be scaled, tested and deleted freely, and they convert to pay-per-use billing only when you add a payment method.
