Docker Engine CE on MassiveGRID PaaS

The Docker Engine CE package installs Docker Engine Community Edition on a dedicated Linux node on MassiveGRID PaaS, either as a standalone host where you run containers and Compose stacks yourself, or as a worker node ready to join an existing Docker Swarm. You get root access and pay-per-use billing.

Both buttons open the MassiveGRID PaaS dashboard with Docker Engine CE pre-selected. The trial needs no credit card.

What is Docker Engine CE?

Sometimes you do not want an orchestrator. You want a Linux machine with a current Docker Engine, root access and the ability to run docker compose up, with the platform handling scaling, snapshots and networking. This package provides exactly that. It installs Docker Engine CE on a fresh node, configures the daemon and gives you SSH access.

Because the node lives inside a MassiveGRID PaaS environment, you can attach public IPs, put it behind a load balancer, add persistent storage, schedule it to stop at night, and clone it in one click. When one host is no longer enough, the same package can add worker nodes to a swarm.

What the Docker Engine CE Package Deploys

Marketplace packages are not bare container images. One click provisions a complete, production-shaped environment on MassiveGRID infrastructure.

  • Linux node with Docker Engine CE: A dedicated container-based node with the current stable Docker Engine, containerd and the Docker CLI installed.
  • Docker Compose: The Compose plugin, so multi-container stacks run with a single command.
  • Standalone or worker mode: Choose a standalone host, or supply a swarm join token to add the node as a worker to an existing cluster.
  • Root SSH access: Full control over the daemon configuration, registries, volumes and networks.

Why Teams Choose Docker Engine CE

Run anything containerised

Self-hosted apps, custom services, databases or CI runners from any registry, with no platform restrictions.

Root access

Configure the daemon, install tools and manage volumes exactly as on your own server.

Elastic resources

Vertical auto-scaling grows the host as containers need more CPU and RAM.

Platform conveniences

Snapshots, cloning, public IPs, load balancers and scheduling from the PaaS dashboard.

How to Install Docker Engine CE on MassiveGRID PaaS

Installing the package takes three steps and a few minutes of waiting. No servers to provision, no configuration files to edit.

01

Open the installer

Click Install with free trial or Install to my account. The MassiveGRID PaaS dashboard opens with the Docker Engine CE package pre-selected, so nothing has to be copied or pasted.

02

Sign up or sign in

New to the platform? Sign up for the free 14-day trial, which needs no credit card. Existing customers sign in with their usual dashboard credentials.

03

Choose region and deploy

Name the environment, pick New York, London, Frankfurt or Singapore, and confirm. The platform builds every Docker Engine CE node, wires them together and hands you the live URL and credentials.

Who Runs Docker Engine CE on PaaS

Self-hosted application servers

Running tools such as Uptime Kuma, Gitea, Portainer or your own images from a Compose file.

Development and test hosts

Disposable Docker hosts per developer or branch, stopped at night to save cost.

Swarm capacity

Adding worker nodes to a Docker Swarm cluster as load grows.

Why Run Docker Engine CE on MassiveGRID PaaS

Built for uptime. Docker Engine CE runs on MassiveGRID's high-availability platform, where every environment is covered by a 100% uptime SLA. Nodes live on redundant hosts, storage is replicated, and failed containers are restarted or migrated automatically.

Pay for what you use. Billing is hourly and per cloudlet (128 MiB RAM plus 400 MHz CPU). Vertical auto-scaling adds and removes cloudlets as load changes, so a quiet Docker Engine CE environment costs a few dollars a month and a busy one grows without a migration. Full details are on the PaaS page.

Your choice of jurisdiction. Deploy in New York, London, Frankfurt or Singapore and keep data inside the region your users or regulators require. MassiveGRID is ISO 9001 certified and GDPR compliant, and has run hosting infrastructure since 2003.

No lock-in. The package is a standard Jelastic Packaging Standard (JPS) manifest. You keep root-level access to the containers, can export the manifest, and can move the workload to any other Jelastic-compatible platform or to your own servers at any time.

Docker Engine CE Questions

Yes. Docker Compose is installed. Upload your compose file over SSH or Git and start the stack; use the environment's public IP or the platform load balancer to expose services.
MassiveGRID PaaS can run a single image as a managed container with platform scaling. This package instead gives you a full Docker host where you manage many containers yourself with the Docker CLI, which is what Compose-based projects and tools like Portainer expect.
Yes. It is a stateful node with persistent storage; containers, images and volumes survive restarts, and snapshots can be taken from the dashboard.
There is no licence fee for the package. You pay only for the resources the Docker Engine CE environment consumes, billed hourly in cloudlets of 128 MiB RAM plus 400 MHz CPU. A single-node environment starts at $2.46 per month, or $0.003372 per hour, and clustered topologies cost more because they run more nodes. See the PaaS pricing page for details.
MassiveGRID PaaS runs in four regions: New York, London, Frankfurt and Singapore. You pick the region in the installer, and every environment is covered by the 100% uptime SLA. Read more about our data centres and network.
Yes. New accounts get a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. Click Install with free trial above, sign up, and the installer opens with Docker Engine CE already selected. Trial environments can be scaled, tested and deleted freely, and they convert to pay-per-use billing only when you add a payment method.
