GlusterFS on MassiveGRID PaaS
The GlusterFS Replicated Volume package deploys a cluster of storage nodes that replicate every file across them, presenting one fault-tolerant network file system. It is the shared storage layer for load-balanced web clusters, container platforms and backup repositories on MassiveGRID PaaS.

What is GlusterFS?
When an application runs on several servers, they must see the same files: uploads, plugins, media, generated reports. A single NFS server does that but is itself a single point of failure. GlusterFS solves the problem by storing each file on multiple nodes at once, so any node can fail without data loss or downtime, and by scaling capacity and throughput as nodes are added.
The package deploys the storage nodes, creates a replicated volume and configures the peers, leaving you a mount point that application servers, Kubernetes pods or backup jobs can use. It is the same technology behind the multi-node option of the Backup Storage package.
What the GlusterFS Package Deploys
Marketplace packages are not bare container images. One click provisions a complete, production-shaped environment on MassiveGRID infrastructure.
- Storage nodes: Three GlusterFS server containers by default, each holding a full replica of the volume's data.
- Replicated volume: A Gluster volume in replica mode so every write lands on all nodes before it is acknowledged.
- Peer configuration: Trusted storage pool, volume options and healing settings applied by the installer.
- Mount instructions: Native GlusterFS client and NFS mount details for attaching the volume to other environments.
Why Teams Choose GlusterFS
No single point of failure
Data lives on several nodes; losing one is invisible to clients and self-heals when it returns.
Scale out
Add nodes to grow capacity and throughput, then rebalance without downtime.
POSIX file system
Applications see an ordinary mounted directory; no code changes or object-storage SDKs.
Platform integration
Mount from PHP, Java and Node.js application layers, Kubernetes storage classes, or backup add-ons.
How to Install GlusterFS on MassiveGRID PaaS
Installing the package takes three steps and a few minutes of waiting. No servers to provision, no configuration files to edit.

Who Runs GlusterFS on PaaS
Shared storage for web clusters
Uploads and media for load-balanced WordPress, Magento, Drupal and Nextcloud deployments.
Persistent volumes for containers
Replicated storage behind Kubernetes or Docker Swarm workloads.
Backup repositories
Fault-tolerant destination for database dumps and file backups.
Why Run GlusterFS on MassiveGRID PaaS
Built for uptime. GlusterFS runs on MassiveGRID's high-availability platform, where every environment is covered by a 100% uptime SLA. Nodes live on redundant hosts, storage is replicated, and failed containers are restarted or migrated automatically.
Pay for what you use. Billing is hourly and per cloudlet (128 MiB RAM plus 400 MHz CPU). Vertical auto-scaling adds and removes cloudlets as load changes, so a quiet GlusterFS environment costs a few dollars a month and a busy one grows without a migration. Full details are on the PaaS page.
Your choice of jurisdiction. Deploy in New York, London, Frankfurt or Singapore and keep data inside the region your users or regulators require. MassiveGRID is ISO 9001 certified and GDPR compliant, and has run hosting infrastructure since 2003.
No lock-in. The package is a standard Jelastic Packaging Standard (JPS) manifest. You keep root-level access to the containers, can export the manifest, and can move the workload to any other Jelastic-compatible platform or to your own servers at any time.
