Node.js and NPM Installer Add-on for PaaS

The Node.js and NPM Installer add-on installs the Node.js version you choose, along with npm, into the containers of an existing layer on MassiveGRID PaaS. It is for environments that are not Node.js application servers but still need Node tooling, for example PHP servers compiling front-end assets or Java nodes running build scripts.

Both buttons open the MassiveGRID PaaS dashboard with Node.js and NPM Installer pre-selected. The trial needs no credit card.

What is Node.js and NPM Installer?

Modern web projects mix runtimes. A Laravel or WordPress theme is built with Vite or webpack; a Java application ships a React front end; a Python service uses a Node-based tool for PDF rendering. When the application server is not a Node.js node, you still need Node and npm on it to run those builds and scripts, ideally a specific version matching your project.

This add-on installs the selected Node.js release and npm on every node in the chosen layer, sets the path so they are available in SSH sessions and deploy hooks, and can be re-run to change versions. It saves compiling from source or juggling distribution packages inside containers.

What Node.js and NPM Installer Changes in Your Environment

Add-ons run against an environment you already have. Nothing is rebuilt, and the change can be removed from the same dashboard.

  • Node.js runtime: The Node.js version you select (LTS or current) installed on each node of the layer.
  • npm: The matching npm package manager, ready for npm install and npm run commands.
  • Environment setup: Binaries added to the path for interactive shells and deployment scripts.
  • Version switching: Re-run the add-on to install a different Node.js version.

Why Teams Choose Node.js and NPM Installer

Any version

Pin the exact Node.js release your build requires.

Any layer

PHP, Java, Ruby, Python, Go or custom Docker containers.

Build on the server

Compile assets during deployment instead of committing built files.

Scaling aware

New nodes in the layer receive the same Node.js installation.

How to Add Node.js and NPM Installer on MassiveGRID PaaS

Attaching the add-on takes three steps and a few minutes of waiting. No servers to provision, no configuration files to edit.

01

Open the installer

Click Install with free trial or Install to my account. The MassiveGRID PaaS dashboard opens with the Node.js and NPM Installer add-on pre-selected, so nothing has to be copied or pasted.

02

Sign up or sign in

New to the platform? Sign up for the free 14-day trial, which needs no credit card. Existing customers sign in with their usual dashboard credentials.

03

Pick the target environment

Choose the environment, and where relevant the node layer, that Node.js and NPM Installer should attach to, then confirm. The add-on configures itself on the running nodes without a redeploy.

Who Runs Node.js and NPM Installer on PaaS

PHP applications with modern front ends

Laravel Mix/Vite, WordPress block themes and Symfony Encore builds.

Java or Python apps with JavaScript tooling

Running webpack, Tailwind or Puppeteer alongside the main runtime.

Operational scripts

Node-based CLIs for deployments, migrations or reporting.

Why Run Node.js and NPM Installer on MassiveGRID PaaS

Built for uptime. Node.js and NPM Installer runs on MassiveGRID's high-availability platform, where every environment is covered by a 100% uptime SLA. Nodes live on redundant hosts, storage is replicated, and failed containers are restarted or migrated automatically.

Pay for what you use. Billing is hourly and per cloudlet (128 MiB RAM plus 400 MHz CPU). Vertical auto-scaling adds and removes cloudlets as load changes, so a quiet Node.js and NPM Installer environment costs a few dollars a month and a busy one grows without a migration. Full details are on the PaaS page.

Your choice of jurisdiction. Deploy in New York, London, Frankfurt or Singapore and keep data inside the region your users or regulators require. MassiveGRID is ISO 9001 certified and GDPR compliant, and has run hosting infrastructure since 2003.

No lock-in. The package is a standard Jelastic Packaging Standard (JPS) manifest. You keep root-level access to the containers, can export the manifest, and can move the workload to any other Jelastic-compatible platform or to your own servers at any time.

Node.js and NPM Installer Questions

If Node.js is your application's runtime, deploy a Node.js application server from the topology wizard. Use this add-on when Node is only a build or scripting tool on a server running another runtime.
Yes. After installation, run npm install -g yarn or pnpm, or use corepack, which ships with recent Node.js versions.
No. Node.js only consumes resources while a build or script runs. Schedule builds in deploy hooks and they finish before traffic hits the new version.
The Node.js and NPM Installer add-on itself is free. You pay only for the environment it is attached to, which is billed per use in cloudlets (128 MiB RAM plus 400 MHz CPU each). A small environment starts at $2.46 per month, or $0.003372 per hour, and the PaaS pricing page explains the model in full.
MassiveGRID PaaS runs in four regions: New York, London, Frankfurt and Singapore. You pick the region in the installer, and every environment is covered by the 100% uptime SLA. Read more about our data centres and network.
Yes. New accounts get a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. Click Install with free trial above, sign up, and the installer opens with Node.js and NPM Installer already selected. Trial environments can be scaled, tested and deleted freely, and they convert to pay-per-use billing only when you add a payment method.
