New Relic APM Add-on for PaaS

The New Relic APM add-on installs and configures the New Relic application performance monitoring agent on the Java or PHP application servers of a MassiveGRID PaaS environment. Within minutes you see transaction traces, slow database queries, error rates and throughput in your New Relic account, with no manual agent setup.

Both buttons open the MassiveGRID PaaS dashboard with New Relic APM pre-selected. The trial needs no credit card.

What is New Relic APM?

New Relic APM shows what your application is doing in production: which transactions are slow, which SQL queries dominate response time, where exceptions occur, and how external services affect latency. It is the standard tool for troubleshooting performance in Java and PHP applications, and its free tier covers a generous amount of data for small teams.

Installing the agent means downloading the right version, placing it in the runtime, editing configuration with your licence key and application name, and restarting, on every node. The add-on does all of this for the selected layer and keeps new nodes consistent as the layer scales, so the whole cluster reports under one application name.

What New Relic APM Changes in Your Environment

Add-ons run against an environment you already have. Nothing is rebuilt, and the change can be removed from the same dashboard.

  • New Relic agent: The Java or PHP agent matching the node's runtime, installed on every node in the layer.
  • Configuration: Licence key and application name set, with the runtime configured to load the agent.
  • Graceful restart: Application servers restarted one at a time so the agent activates without downtime.
  • Scaling support: New nodes receive the agent and configuration automatically.

Why Teams Choose New Relic APM

Code-level visibility

Transaction traces, slow SQL, external calls and error analytics.

Whole-cluster view

All nodes of a layer report to one application, with per-host breakdowns.

Alerting and dashboards

Use New Relic's alert policies and dashboards on the collected data.

Zero manual setup

Licence key in, insight out; nothing to edit on the servers.

How to Add New Relic APM on MassiveGRID PaaS

Attaching the add-on takes three steps and a few minutes of waiting. No servers to provision, no configuration files to edit.

01

Open the installer

Click Install with free trial or Install to my account. The MassiveGRID PaaS dashboard opens with the New Relic APM add-on pre-selected, so nothing has to be copied or pasted.

02

Sign up or sign in

New to the platform? Sign up for the free 14-day trial, which needs no credit card. Existing customers sign in with their usual dashboard credentials.

03

Pick the target environment

Choose the environment, and where relevant the node layer, that New Relic APM should attach to, then confirm. The add-on configures itself on the running nodes without a redeploy.

Who Runs New Relic APM on PaaS

Java clusters

Tomcat, WildFly, GlassFish and Spring Boot deployments needing production diagnostics.

PHP applications

WordPress, Magento, Laravel and Drupal sites chasing slow pages and queries.

Performance regressions

Comparing releases and catching slowdowns before customers do.

Why Run New Relic APM on MassiveGRID PaaS

Built for uptime. New Relic APM runs on MassiveGRID's high-availability platform, where every environment is covered by a 100% uptime SLA. Nodes live on redundant hosts, storage is replicated, and failed containers are restarted or migrated automatically.

Pay for what you use. Billing is hourly and per cloudlet (128 MiB RAM plus 400 MHz CPU). Vertical auto-scaling adds and removes cloudlets as load changes, so a quiet New Relic APM environment costs a few dollars a month and a busy one grows without a migration. Full details are on the PaaS page.

Your choice of jurisdiction. Deploy in New York, London, Frankfurt or Singapore and keep data inside the region your users or regulators require. MassiveGRID is ISO 9001 certified and GDPR compliant, and has run hosting infrastructure since 2003.

No lock-in. The package is a standard Jelastic Packaging Standard (JPS) manifest. You keep root-level access to the containers, can export the manifest, and can move the workload to any other Jelastic-compatible platform or to your own servers at any time.

Java application servers (Tomcat, TomEE, WildFly, GlassFish, Spring Boot on Java Engine) and PHP application servers (Apache PHP, NGINX PHP, LiteSpeed).
New Relic agents typically add low single-digit percent CPU overhead. You can tune sampling and disable specific instrumentation from the New Relic UI if needed.
The New Relic APM add-on itself is free. You pay only for the environment it is attached to, which is billed per use in cloudlets (128 MiB RAM plus 400 MHz CPU each). A small environment starts at $2.46 per month, or $0.003372 per hour, and the PaaS pricing page explains the model in full.
MassiveGRID PaaS runs in four regions: New York, London, Frankfurt and Singapore. You pick the region in the installer, and every environment is covered by the 100% uptime SLA. Read more about our data centres and network.
Yes. New accounts get a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. Click Install with free trial above, sign up, and the installer opens with New Relic APM already selected. Trial environments can be scaled, tested and deleted freely, and they convert to pay-per-use billing only when you add a payment method.
