What is Magento Standalone?

Magento Open Source is the free edition of the platform behind Adobe Commerce, trusted by hundreds of thousands of merchants for complex catalogues, B2B pricing, multi-store setups and deep customisation. It is also one of the most demanding PHP applications to host: it needs a modern PHP stack, MySQL, a search engine, plenty of memory and careful caching to feel fast.

The Standalone package takes care of that stack in one click. It deploys a tuned application server, a MySQL-compatible database and the search service Magento requires, installs Magento with sample configuration, and exposes the store over HTTPS. Vertical auto-scaling adds cloudlets during promotions and removes them afterwards, so a small store pays for what it sells, not for peak capacity all year.

What the Magento Standalone Package Deploys

Marketplace packages are not bare container images. One click provisions a complete, production-shaped environment on MassiveGRID infrastructure.

  • PHP application server: NGINX or LiteSpeed with PHP-FPM, OPcache and the extensions Magento 2 requires, with the Magento cron job pre-configured.
  • MySQL-compatible database: A linked MariaDB or MySQL container tuned for Magento's InnoDB workload.
  • Search engine: Elasticsearch or OpenSearch, which Magento 2.4 requires for catalogue search and layered navigation.
  • Optional Redis: Add Redis for page cache and sessions to cut database load and speed up checkout.
  • Built-in domain and SSL: HTTPS on a platform subdomain from the first minute; attach your shop domain via Let's Encrypt.

Why Teams Choose Magento Standalone

Full Magento 2 stack, no setup

PHP, database and search engine versions are matched to the installed Magento release, which is the step most self-hosted installs get wrong.

Auto-scaling for sales events

Cloudlets are added when Black Friday traffic arrives and removed when it leaves.

Staging in one click

Clone the environment to test extensions and upgrades against real data, then delete the copy.

Grow into a cluster

When one server is not enough, the Magento Cluster package adds load balancing, replicated databases and Redis without changing the application.

How to Install Magento Standalone on MassiveGRID PaaS

Installing the package takes three steps and a few minutes of waiting. No servers to provision, no configuration files to edit.

01

Open the installer

Click Install with free trial or Install to my account. The MassiveGRID PaaS dashboard opens with the Magento Standalone package pre-selected, so nothing has to be copied or pasted.

02

Sign up or sign in

New to the platform? Sign up for the free 14-day trial, which needs no credit card. Existing customers sign in with their usual dashboard credentials.

03

Choose region and deploy

Name the environment, pick New York, London, Frankfurt or Singapore, and confirm. The platform builds every Magento Standalone node, wires them together and hands you the live URL and credentials.

Why Run Magento Standalone on MassiveGRID PaaS

Built for uptime. Magento Standalone runs on MassiveGRID's high-availability platform, where every environment is covered by a 100% uptime SLA. Nodes live on redundant hosts, storage is replicated, and failed containers are restarted or migrated automatically.

Pay for what you use. Billing is hourly and per cloudlet (128 MiB RAM plus 400 MHz CPU). Vertical auto-scaling adds and removes cloudlets as load changes, so a quiet Magento Standalone environment costs a few dollars a month and a busy one grows without a migration. Full details are on the PaaS page.

Your choice of jurisdiction. Deploy in New York, London, Frankfurt or Singapore and keep data inside the region your users or regulators require. MassiveGRID is ISO 9001 certified and GDPR compliant, and has run hosting infrastructure since 2003.

No lock-in. The package is a standard Jelastic Packaging Standard (JPS) manifest. You keep root-level access to the containers, can export the manifest, and can move the workload to any other Jelastic-compatible platform or to your own servers at any time.

Magento Standalone Questions

The package installs Magento Open Source, the free edition licensed under OSL 3.0. Adobe Commerce is a paid licence from Adobe; customers with a licence can deploy it into the same environment type.
Magento recommends at least 2 GB for the application server plus memory for the database and search engine, so plan for a larger starting environment than a WordPress shop. Vertical auto-scaling handles peaks above the baseline.
When downtime costs real revenue, when a single server cannot keep pages fast during campaigns, or when you need zero-downtime deployments. The cluster package uses the same Magento code, so migration is a database and media copy.
There is no licence fee for the package. You pay only for the resources the Magento Standalone environment consumes, billed hourly in cloudlets of 128 MiB RAM plus 400 MHz CPU. A single-node environment starts at $2.46 per month, or $0.003372 per hour, and clustered topologies cost more because they run more nodes. See the PaaS pricing page for details.
MassiveGRID PaaS runs in four regions: New York, London, Frankfurt and Singapore. You pick the region in the installer, and every environment is covered by the 100% uptime SLA. Read more about our data centres and network.
Yes. New accounts get a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. Click Install with free trial above, sign up, and the installer opens with Magento Standalone already selected. Trial environments can be scaled, tested and deleted freely, and they convert to pay-per-use billing only when you add a payment method.
