Short answer: Nextcloud Hub 26 Summer, server version 35, was released on 16 September 2026. The headline additions are a Teams app that gives each team its own workspace, Nextcloud Office on the desktop with Euro-Office editors, a redesigned Photos app, an Assistant with OCR, skills and scheduled tasks, Talk channels and "classified" conversations, relational columns in Tables, and an early-access Governance add-on for compliance. Nextcloud said the Enterprise build would follow once additional testing and certification were complete, and that is the version managed platforms such as MassiveGRID's Nextcloud Hub run, so hosted customers get the release after that step rather than on launch day. Here is what is in it and what it means for a team on a managed plan.
Release cadence and version numbers
Nextcloud now ships three major releases a year, named by year and season: Hub 26 Winter (server 33) on 18 February 2026, Hub 26 Spring (34) on 9 June, and Hub 26 Summer (35) on 16 September. Each community branch is maintained for about a year, so Hub 25 Autumn (32) reached its last release, 32.0.15, in September 2026. Nextcloud reports that over 97% of the pull requests in this release were maintenance work, which is a useful corrective to the feature list below: most of the engineering went into speed, stability and the Vue 3 migration. The Enterprise vs Community guide explains what the cadence means for self-hosters versus subscribers.
Teams: a workspace per team
The largest new piece is the Nextcloud Teams app. A team gets its own home section, its own storage and integrated workflows; administrators can set storage quotas for new teams and see usage across all of them. Ownership starts with Collectives pages and Deck boards, with more apps to follow. For an organisation that has been faking team spaces with top-level shared folders and naming conventions, this is the feature to plan around, because it changes how you would lay out a new instance. On the Hub plans, Deck is on Business and Enterprise, so the Teams experience is fullest there.
Office on the desktop
Nextcloud Office, powered by Euro-Office, gains desktop editors for Windows, Linux and macOS with collaborative editing, which Nextcloud said would be available for download in the weeks after release. It is the answer to the one objection every browser-based suite meets: the people who will not edit in a tab. Collabora Online, the other Nextcloud Office engine, also gets AI tools, Writer and Calc improvements and better commenting in this release. Our guide to Office in hosted Nextcloud explains the three engines and what a plan should include.
Photos, Assistant, Talk, Tables, Text, Files, Mail and Calendar
| App | What changed in Hub 26 Summer | Why a hosted team cares |
|---|---|---|
| Photos | Redesigned library with a flexible grid, map view, "Trip Memories", slideshow, a year recap and EXIF corrections; album support in the mobile apps, built with Deutsche Telekom | Google Photos replacement gets credible; see the Google Photos guide |
| Assistant | OCR, better audio transcription, on-demand memories, reusable skills, scheduled tasks, agent tools for Mail, Deck, Talk and Tables, faster streaming and batch processing | Assistant is an Ultimate-tier feature on dedicated instances; ask your host whether and where models run |
| Talk | "Classified" conversations with stricter privacy defaults; Channels and Announcements presets; a high-performance backend handling 1,000+ user calls | Large all-hands calls become realistic on the HPB; channels make Talk a Slack replacement rather than a chat box |
| Tables | Relational columns, structure export and import, notifications, column aliases, Budibase integration | Tables moves from a list tool to a small database; Business and Enterprise plans include it |
| Text and Notes | Inline comments and footnotes in Text; Zen mode, templates and version history in Notes | Everyday document review no longer needs the full office suite |
| Files | Unified sharing across apps; one-time passwords for file shares | Share links to clients get a second factor without a client account |
| Sieve forwarding, a floating composer, community-contributed options | Relevant on every Hub plan, since mailboxes are included | |
| Calendar | Browsable room finder with free/busy; web UI for rooms and resources | Meeting room booking without a separate tool |
| Governance | Early-access enterprise compliance add-on: dashboard, sensitivity labels, retention policies, legal hold, share auditing | The piece regulated organisations asked for; a dedicated-instance conversation |
Performance and the maintenance release
Nextcloud cites faster loading, new search indexes and the Vue 3 migrations as the performance work, and the Talk high-performance backend's 1,000-user capacity is the number that will get quoted. The release notes also say that some admin-settings improvements were deferred to the next minor release, which is normal for a seasonal release and a reason managed platforms wait for the first point releases before rolling a major version to customers.
When a managed hosting customer gets it
There are two gates between a Nextcloud release and a managed customer's login page.
The Enterprise certification. Nextcloud's announcement says the Enterprise version of Hub 26 Summer "will become available soon, once we successfully run the additional testing and complete certification". The Enterprise branch is what MassiveGRID's Nextcloud Hub plans run (Nextcloud Enterprise Ultimate) and what dedicated instances subscribe to, so the clock starts when that build ships, not on 16 September.
The operator's own rollout. A managed platform does not upgrade a shared instance on a release day. It stages the new version, runs it against the apps the plans include (Office, Talk, Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Tables, Deck, Tasks), takes the first maintenance releases that fix launch issues, and then schedules the upgrade with a backup and rollback point. On a Hub plan that work is MassiveGRID's; the customer's experience is that one morning the Teams app is there. On a dedicated instance with a Premium or Ultimate subscription the organisation may choose not to take seasonal releases at all and stay on a validated version for its five-plus-year lifecycle, which is one of the things the subscription is for.
The trade-off is explicit: a self-hosted community instance can have Hub 26 Summer the day it is released, with the community branch's twelve months of maintenance and the administrator's weekend. A managed Enterprise platform gets it weeks later, tested, with someone else's weekend. Most organisations paying per user have already chosen which of those they want. If you are still choosing, the managed vs self-hosted comparison is the next read, and the upgrade rehearsal guide shows how to do a major upgrade safely if you run your own.
Frequently Asked Questions
What version is Nextcloud Hub 26 Summer?
Server version 35, released on 16 September 2026. It follows Hub 26 Spring (34, June 2026) and Hub 26 Winter (33, February 2026). The community branch is maintained for about a year, to September 2027.
What are the biggest new features in Nextcloud Hub 26 Summer?
The Teams app with per-team workspaces and quotas, Nextcloud Office desktop editors powered by Euro-Office, a redesigned Photos app, an Assistant with OCR, skills and scheduled tasks, Talk channels and classified conversations, relational columns in Tables, comments and footnotes in Text, one-time passwords for file shares, and an early-access Governance compliance add-on.
When do managed Nextcloud hosting customers get a new release?
After Nextcloud ships the Enterprise build, which follows additional testing and certification, and after the operator has staged and tested the upgrade with the first maintenance releases. On MassiveGRID's Hub plans the upgrade is done for you with a backup and rollback point; dedicated instances on Premium or Ultimate subscriptions can stay on a validated version for years if they prefer.
Is the Nextcloud Assistant included on hosted plans?
The Assistant is included on Nextcloud's Ultimate subscription tier and optional at extra cost on Standard, so on a dedicated instance it depends on the tier. Hub 26 Summer adds OCR, skills, scheduled tasks and agent tools to it. Ask your host where the models run before enabling it on sensitive data.
Can I still use Hub 25 Autumn?
Server 32 (Hub 25 Autumn) reached its last community release, 32.0.15, in September 2026, so a community instance on it will stop receiving security fixes. Upgrade one major version at a time: 32 to 33 to 34 to 35. Enterprise subscribers on Premium or Ultimate have a longer maintenance lifecycle on their validated version.
